As Sahabah, The Oldest Mosque in Africa, From The Prophet Muhammad Era

The construction of the mosque, according to some records, was in 651. It was named Huai Sheng. Its position is in the center of Guang Zhou Guang Dong, China. The Tang Dynasty called the Muslim community 'Hui'.

This is the first and oldest mosque in China. Huai Sheng means "memory of the Great Prophet", meaning the Prophet Muhammad.

The Huai Sheng Mosque is also called the 'Guangta Mosque'. Which means 'tower of fire' or 'tower of light'. This is related to the 36-meter high azan tower in the southwest of the mosque which is also used by local residents as a guide to the Zhujiang River traffic.

Some also refer to the Great Mosque of Canton, Guangta Si, Hwai Sun Su, Huai-Sheng, Ying Tong, Huai-Shang, and Huai-Shang Si.

The mosque occupies an area of 3,000 square meters with a gate on Guangta Street composed of red bricks and wooden strings with a green roof. Above the gate is a Chinese inscription that means, "The religion that brings great teachings comes from the western region."

There is also another inscription, "Under the white clouds, where the mountain is, stands a beautiful pagoda-shaped stone that came from the western region. It was accepted by Emperor Gao Zu of the Tang Dynasty until now."
