This is the first and oldest mosque in China. Huai Sheng means "memory of the Great Prophet", meaning the Prophet Muhammad.

The Huai Sheng Mosque is also called the 'Guangta Mosque'. Which means 'tower of fire' or 'tower of light'. This is related to the 36-meter high azan tower in the southwest of the mosque which is also used by local residents as a guide to the Zhujiang River traffic.

The mosque occupies an area of 3,000 square meters with a gate on Guangta Street composed of red bricks and wooden strings with a green roof. Above the gate is a Chinese inscription that means, "The religion that brings great teachings comes from the western region."

There is also another inscription, "Under the white clouds, where the mountain is, stands a beautiful pagoda-shaped stone that came from the western region. It was accepted by Emperor Gao Zu of the Tang Dynasty until now."

The XianXian Mosque, located on Jiefang North Road, Yuexiu, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, was built during the Huai Sheng Mosque. Also during the Tang Dynasty.
The difference is that this mosque with a capacity of 1,000 worshipers is also a Hui clan cemetery. This cemetery is the final resting place of 40 scholars, including Saad bin Abi Waqqas.
